Anna Zimmer is a postdoctoral researcher in the team of Prof. René Véron. She studied geography at the universities of Cologne and Bonn (Germany) as well as at the university of Extremadura (Spain). She then pursued a PhD from the university of Bonn and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre de Sciences Humaines, New Delhi (India).

Anna’s main research interests focus on political ecology with a special interest for water and sanitation. In this context, she works with concepts of urban governance, governmentality, the everyday state and explores questions of equity, the right to the city and informal housing.

Her Master thesis dealt with the political ecology of water use by gated communities in Murcia, Spain. During her PhD she studied the everyday governance of waste water in two types of informal settlements in New Delhi. At the Centre de Sciences Humaines, she addressed questions of public-private partnerships in the provision of water supply in Nagpur and undertook preliminary research on the governance of small towns in Haryana. Her current research in the context of the FNRS-funded project “Small Cities, Urban Environments and Governance in India” questions processes of environmental governance under the condition of neoliberal reforms in small cities of Gujarat.
